We believe that planting churches is God's ordained method of spreading the gospel throughout the world. We believe that Jesus himself commissioned his followers to plant churches when he said, "Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age” (Matthew 28:19-20). We believe, as Tim Keller has said, that "The vigorous, continual planting of new congregations is the single most crucial strategy for (1) the numerical growth of the body of Christ in a city and (2) the continual corporate renewal and revival of the existing churches in a city." We believe, as Mark Dever and Jamie Dunlop have written, that "Sometimes the most strategic thing we can do for God's kingdom is to take the precious fellowship he's raised up and split it apart. Then new churches can bear witness to the gospel far more effectively than we could ever do by ourselves."
For these reasons, Bethany Baptist Church commissioned the planting of Peace Bible Church in Salem, Oregon. We began worship services on October 1, 2023.
Peace Bible Church is located in Salem, Oregon. Salem is the capital city of Oregon, with a population of over 175,000, and far more in the surrounding areas. The first Christian missionaries came to the Salem area in the late 1830s, responding to a plea from natives in the area for someone to bring them God's "Book of Heaven." Now, nearly 200 years later, although a number of churches exist in Salem, we believe that the same need still exists. We need more churches in Salem that will exalt Jesus Christ, proclaim the gospel, teach the Scriptures, and disciple people in the Christian faith.
We currently meet for worship services every Sunday at 10:00 am at the Boys and Girls Club in central Salem (1395 Summer Street).
