About Our Church Covenant

Our church covenant is based on a historic Baptist covenant from over 150 years ago, updated lightly to reflect our current setting and our priorities as a church. Some of the language might seem a bit out of place or dated, but we don't mind that--it connects us to a historic tradition and helps to solemnize our commitment to Christ's church. We intend to use this covenant regularly in the life of Peace Bible Church, to remind us of what Christ wishes to work in and through us as a people.

Peace Bible Church Covenant

(first affirmed September 24, 2023)

Having, as we trust, been brought by divine grace to repent and believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and to entrust ourselves to him, and having been baptized upon our profession of faith, in the name of the Father and of the Son and the Holy Spirit, we do now, relying on His gracious aid, solemnly and joyfully renew our covenant with each other.

  • We will work to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.
  • We will walk together in Christian love, exercising affectionate care toward each other, encouraging each other to forsake sin and pursue holiness.
  • We will commit to pray for each other, to bear each other’s burdens, and to rejoice and mourn together, building a culture of discipleship.
  • We will extend grace and welcome each other as God in Christ has welcomed us, remaining slow to take offense and quick to seek reconciliation.
  • We will seek to live carefully in the world, as those being transformed by the gospel, showing through our conduct that we have died to sin and been raised to new life in Christ Jesus.
  • We will strive to raise those under our care in the knowledge and love of the Lord, and will together as a church seek the salvation of our families and friends.
  • We will faithfully gather to proclaim Christ from all the Scriptures, and will work together to sustain the church’s worship, discipline, and doctrines.
  • We will work together for the good of the church, and we will joyfully contribute to the support of the ministry, the expenses of the church, the relief of the poor, and the spread of the gospel throughout the world.

May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with us all. Amen.

Covenant Sermon Series

During our first year as a church, our elders preached a sermon series on the various points of our church covenant. You can find links to the audio for each message below:

  • Peace in the Church; Ephesians 4:1-6; 10/22/23. Expounding on "We will work to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace." (Casey Lute) Note: this sermon was part of an earlier series on peace in the Bible, but we include it here because it covers the first point of our covenant as well.

  • Does My Love Look Like the Lord's?; Ephesians 4:29-32; 2/04/24. Expounding on "We will walk together in Christian love, exercising affectionate care toward each other, encouraging each other to forsake sin and pursue holiness." (Kent Kersey)

  • Welcomed by the Blood of Christ; Ephesians 2:11-18; 3/03/24. Expounding on "We will extend grace and welcome each other as God in Christ has welcomed us, remaining slow to take offense and quick to seek reconciliation." (Craig Smith)

  • Building a Culture of Discipleship; Romans 12:1-21; 4/14/24.  Expounding on "We will commit to pray for each other, to bear each other’s burdens, and to rejoice and mourn together, building a culture of discipleship." (Jeromy Puckett)

  • Learning to Walk; Colossians 1:9-14; 4/21/24. Expounding on "We will seek to live carefully in the world, as those being transformed by the gospel, showing through our conduct that we have died to sin and been raised to new life in Christ Jesus." (Seth Higby)

  • Entrusted with the Message; 2 Corinthians 5:11-21; 5/19/24. Expounding on "We will strive to raise those under our care in the knowledge and love of the Lord, and will together as a church seek the salvation of our families and friends." (Craig Smith)

  • Worship in Spirit and Truth; John 4:1-26; 6/23/24. Expounding on "We will faithfully gather to proclaim Christ from all the Scriptures, and will work together to sustain the church’s worship, discipline, and doctrines." (Kent Kersey)

Expounding on "We will work together for the good of the church, and we will joyfully contribute to the support of the ministry, the expenses of the church, the relief of the poor, and the spread of the gospel throughout the world." (Jeromy Puckett)

  • Covenanted for Christ's Sake; 1 Timothy 3:14-16; 9/01/24. Expounding on the covenant as a whole and concluding the series. (Casey Lute)
